  1. ILO-WFP-WB collaboration in Myanmar to support the expansion of social protection

    10 July 2015

    The ILO, WFP and the World Bank combined the United Nations’ social protection Assessment-Based National Dialogue (ABND) and the World Bank Social Protection Assessment (SPA) methodologies over an 18 month period. The objective was to avoid duplication of work and join forces to provide the Myanmar policy making process with the most needed evidence on social protection through a participatory and inclusive process articulated around the life-cycle approach to social protection.

  1. For the second year celebration of World Day against Child Labour Campaing in Myanmar

    12 June 2015

    June 12 is the World Day Against Child Labour and this year’s theme is “No to Child Labour, Yes to Quality Education. In Yangon a national event is held with the Government, Workers and Employers Organizations, Civil Society, Private Businesses and Development Partners. At the community level, events in Mon and Kayin States with local partner organizations Karen Women Empowerment Group, Mon National Education Committee, Mon Women Organization and Women Empowerment Program are being with the participation of students, teachers and community members through awareness raising activities through arts and dialogue.

  1. 2015 Myanmar Stakeholders Forum on Labour Law Reform and Institutional Capacity Building

    18 - 19 May 2015

    The objective of this Stakeholder Forum is to provide a venue for business, labour, and other civil society representatives to engage with the Government of Myanmar regarding its ongoing reform efforts; to provide guidance on and recommendations for the development of a multiyear labour law reform and capacity building plan (labour reform plan); and to foster constructive relationships among domestic and international stakeholders. This is the first Stakeholder Forum to be held under the Initiative to Promote Fundamental Labour Rights and Practices in Myanmar.

  1. National Workshop on Mutual Recognition of Skills for the ASEAN Economic Community 2015

    The national workshop convened by Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS) with the support of the ILO presents an overall objective of pushing forward the MRS agenda in Myanmar. It will also address the objectives of the ILO-Korea’s project “Towards a Mutual Recognition of Skills in Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar 2014-15” which is to facilitate mobility of skilled labor through the mutual skills recognition mechanism and accelerate economic integration of the CLM countries, (i.e. Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar) towards the AEC goal by 2015.

  1. National Triparite Dialogue on ILO's Programme Review in Myanmar

    4 - 5 December 2014

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) Liaison Officer in Myanmar and the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security (MOLES) organized a national tripartite dialogue on the ILO’s Programme in Myanmar at the Mt. Pleasant Hotel, Naypyitaw, Myanmar on 4-5 December 2014. The objectives of the dialogue are to: a. ensure openness and transparency on the ILO’s Programme of work in Myanmar; b. identify areas of possible concern and discuss solutions thereto and; c. confirm that the programme is targeted and meeting the country’s identified needs and priorities with no critical gaps.

  1. 7th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML)

    20 - 21 November 2014

    The 7th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML) is held on 20-21 November 2014 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar. The ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour is an open platform for the review, discussion and exchange of the best practices and ideas between governments, workers’ and employers’ organizations, and civil society stakeholders on key issues facing migrant workers in ASEAN. This year, the overall theme of the AFML is “Towards the ASEAN Community by 2015 with enhanced measures to protect and promote the rights of migrant workers”. There also are two subthemes, which are: “Promotion of fair and appropriate employment protection, payment of wages, and adequate access to decent working and living conditions for migrant workers” and “Coordination and role of key stakeholders to set up and implement policies and procedures to facilitate aspects of migration of workers, including recruitment, preparation, protection abroad, and return and reintegration”.

  1. National Tripartite Preparatory Meetings for 7th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML)

    National Tripartite Preparatory Meetings for 7th ASEAN Forum on Migrant Labour (AFML) from September to November 2014 was held in several ASEAN member states to take stock on progress to date and implementation of previous forums’ recommendations at the national level, to discuss the 7th AFML’s proposed theme, and to prepare recommendations for the 7th AFML.     The ILO Liaison Office in Myanmar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MOLES), is holding a workshop to support Government’s commitment to ratify ILO’s Convention 182 on eliminating worst forms of child labour.

  1. Consultation Meeting on the Findings of the Scoping/Assessment Exercise Conducted on the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Roadmap on the Free Flow of Skilled Labour: Towards a Mutual Recognition of Skills in ASEAN

    This meeting will discuss the findings of the ILO scoping study that took stock of the developments on the ASEAN Economic Community goals of the free flow of skilled labour in the ASEAN Member States and will develop a collective Action Plan to pursue the Mutual Recognition of Skills in ASEAN. It will be attended by government representatives from ASEAN Member States and representatives from the regional workers’ and employers’ organization.

  1. Aung San Suu Kyi's visit to ILO

    Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi, Chairperson of the National League for Democracy and Member of Parliament in Myanmar, will address the International Labour Conference at the Palais des Nations and visit the ILO in Geneva.
