Water Tank Project completed in Solomon Islands

The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) in partnership with ILO, handover a completed water tank project to the White River Community High School.

SICCI in partnership with ILO, have handed over a completed water tank project to the White River Community High School. The water tank project is part of ILO’s Cash for Work (CFW) programme, run by the SICCI office, to support schools that were affected by the April flood in 2014.

This project is a completion of the school’s last year rehabilitation programme. SICCI representative Mr. James Dolarii acknowledged the partnership they establish with ILO, that make this project successful and benefited the schools that were affected by the flood.

He appreciates the school’s management and the students at large. “This is sort of help, and we appreciate you taking responsibility to care for this, now your property,” he address the students.“The water tank was really a supportive project to the School,” said the Deputy Principal Simon Tepuke. He adds that, water supply to the school was closed down, just when the project was completed last week. “It was a blessing to the students and to our School”. He conveys the School’s management appreciation to SICCI and ILO for this project. And further adds that water is one of the key issue to their school and by providing this tank to hold water for the students, is just a true blessing.

ILO representative Anne Boyd, adds that they were delighted to see the completion of the project. It is a successful achievement with their partnership with SICCI. ILO has been working with SICCI since last year in response to the April Flood. The CFW is a small scale, short duration Social Protection initiative that is envisaged to be implemented in the response and recovery phases following natural disasters.

Last year SICCI successfully implemented this programme with King George Sixth School, Tuvaruhu Community High School, SINU Pavilion Campus, Mbokonavera High School and then White River CHS.
