At its 110th Session in June 2022, the International Labour Conference recognized “a safe and healthy working environment” as a fundamental principle and right at work and designated the Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 1981 (No. 155) and the Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187) as fundamental Conventions.

Framework for Action on Chemicals and Wastes

The ILO aims to promote activities to better engage ministries of labour, employers’ and workers’ organizations, as well as other world of work stakeholders, in the sound management of chemicals at all levels of governance. The development of an ILO Framework for Action on Chemicals and Waste (Framework) is envisaged to define action areas and priorities for the engagement of world of work actors on chemicals management at the international level. The Framework aims to identify concrete actions where the labour sector has either a lead or important supporting role to play in the sound management of chemicals, recognizing the need for multi-sectoral cooperation. This paper is available for comment by constituents and interested parties.
