Between June and August 2018, the State of Kerala received an excess of 36.23% of rainfall for over the course of two-and- a- half months. Consequently, the State reeled from severe floods. Several landslides happened across the State, adding to the impact of floods.

Against this background and on requests received for support from State constituents, ILO in collaboration with its constituents facilitated sustainable and speedy economic re-integration of affected households for strengthening resilience of the local economy.

The efforts comprise of - identification of needs during the assessment (as part of UN agency), entrepreneurship development to facilitate start/ revival of micro and small enterprises/businesses, skills development to respond to short-term employment opportunities, strengthening the data and statistics system, and mechanisms for safe and informed labour migration in the State and better working conditions and OSH practices applied in small construction sites in the State. These all contribute towards “Employment” aspect mainstreamed in the State during the rebuilding process.
