Realizing child domestic workers’ dreams through sewing class

The atmosphere in “Sanggar Belajar Masa Depan Pekerja Rumah Tangga Anak (PRTA) or Learning Studio for the Future of Child Domestic Workers (CDWs) in Kranji” at Jalan Banteng no. 18, RT/RW 01/11 Kranji, West Bekasi was full of laughter. Several mothers and girls were sitting and chatting. There were round and rectangle trays on a desk in front of them; they were apparently CDWs who learned how to make brooches.

A simple house located at Jalan Sagu Gang Gajen no. 52, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, is full of the jokes and laughter of the girls living there. They are child domestic workers (CDWs) who are busy in the kitchen.

The humble roots of the nature school

Tunas Mulia Nature School was established because of the founder’s concern for child scavengers in Sumur Batu and Bantargebang disposal area (TPA) in Bekasi, West Java. Hundreds of child scavengers who live in temporary huts in that area have dropped out of school.
