The migrant workers protection in Honduras

Both institutions have been working in the coordination improvement regarding a better protection of migrant workers, in topics like statistics information exchange and obtaining a work permit.

The objective of this workshop was to strengthen coordination between both institutions to better manage labour migration. The workshop, supported by the San José Sub-regional Office of the International Labour Organization, was inaugurated by the Employment General Director of the Labour and Social Security Secretary and the Director of the Migration National Institute. The technical presentations were made by officials from the Labour Secretary and the participants included officials of the National Migration Institute who work in border areas where they enter the vast majority of migrant workers from Nicaragua, El Salvador and Guatemala. At the workshop, they decided to sign a high-level agreement regarding the coordination in border areas. They also agreed to share quantitative data on the income of migrant workers.
