17th ILO Regional Seminar for Labour-Based Practitioners

The theme of this edition is: "Delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): The Employment–intensive Investment Approach". Participants will discuss the role and contribution of employment-intensive approaches in achieving the SDG outcomes mainly focussing on building national capacities for employment creation, expanding employment-based social protection floor and conserving the environment - including addressing climate change and its adverse effects.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) in partnership with African states periodically organizes an international meeting dedicated to knowledge and practices sharing relative to Labour-intensive or labour-based works development, evolution and promotion throughout the world. This meeting is called "the ILO Regional Seminar for Labour-based Practitioners".

Held for the first time at M'Beya in Tanzania in 1990, the ILO Regional Seminar at each edition brings together practitioners of labour intensive work, policy makers, planners, researchers, funding and development partners to discuss, evaluate and exchange ideas, knowledge and experience developed in terms of policies, practices and technologies with high potential of employment creation and quality works.

At the end of the 16th edition held in Cotonou (Benin) in October 2015, Ethiopia has been selected by all the participating delegates, as the host-country of the 17th ILO Regional Seminar of Labour-Based Practitioners.

The 17th Seminar of Labour-Based Practitioners will be organized by the Government of Ethiopia in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO). It's planned to take place from November 13 to 17, 2017 in Addis Ababa.

The theme of the seminar is "Delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): The Employment–intensive Investment Approach".
