The UN Task Force on Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE) held its 33rd regular meeting

The meeting was virtually held on 08 December, 2020 and brought together almost 40 participants including representatives from seven member (ILO, UNRISD, UNDESA, UNCTAD, UNDP-ART, UNHRC and OECD), ten observer organizations (CIRIEC, EURICSE, Catalyst2030, GSEF, Euclid Network, Social Economy Europe, SSE International Forum, RIPESS, CSEND, and ICA) and three resource persons.

The meeting started with an update around the joint work on COVID-19 global pandemic and its implications on the social and solidarity economy (SSE). The joint statement of the UNTFSSE was shared in Spanish. The participants were informed that the dedicated page of the task force was updated accordingly

Several priority objectives in the work plan of the UNTFSSE were discussed, including the process leading to a UN resolution on SSE in 2021 and two joint UNTFSSE project proposals. Updates on the Knowledge Hub’s ongoing activities were shared. In particular the project around SSE statistics and SSE encyclopedia were mentioned. The meeting continued with the presentation of the current communication strategy of the task force, including the social media channels and the UNTFSSE website.

As part of updates from members, a UNRISD representative gave updates on their ongoing project “Guidelines for Local Governments on Policies for SSE”. The participants also brainstormed around the topic of SSE education and SSE and youth.

Some recent events were highlighted, by debriefing on joint activities such as the virtual event on “Why does SSE matter for the Agenda 2030 and the recovery post COVID-19?” held on 21 October 2020, in the framework of GSEF Global Virtual Forum and the contribution on SSE on the International Day of Disability on 4 December 2020. The meeting concluded with a round on upcoming events planned by the UNTFSSE or its members and observers.
