The research is part of the ILO project “Strengthening Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) Policy in Asia,” implemented in partnership with the Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency (KoSEA) and supported by the Korean Ministry of Employment and Labour (MOEL). This brief is focused on Indonesia.

  1. The role of cooperatives in eliminating child labour - A facilitator guide to train field trainers

    The objective of the training package on “The role of cooperatives in eliminating Child Labour” is to raise awareness of management, staff and members of agricultural cooperatives about child labour so that they are able to decide on and implement a set of actions that will contribute to the prevention and elimination of child labour within the cooperative’s and members’ operations as well as in their communities. It uses a situated learning approach, where participants are actively involved in their learning experience and learning focuses on skills and competencies specific to their professional practices. The training package builds on previous materials on cooperatives and child labour as well as ILO’s practical experience. The training package contains: a Facilitator guide to train field trainers and a Facilitator Guide to train management, staff and members of agricultural cooperatives. A PowerPoint presentation to support training of trainers can be requested from coop@ilo.org

  3. Platform labour in search of value: A study of workers’ organizing practices and business models in the digital economy

    This report seeks to capture the new strategies being deployed by self-employed workers to reclaim their rights to decent work and a fair share of economic gains in the value networks of the emerging platform economy. Specifically, it focuses on the experiences of workers in on-demand work, crowdsourcing and e-commerce sectors.

  1. Cooperation among Cooperatives in Action between Japan and Africa - 10 Years of ILO/JCCU African Cooperative Leaders’ Study Tour

    This retrospective booklet tells the story of a decade of collaboration between the Japanese Consumers' Co-operative Union (JCCU) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) through the ILO/JCCU African Cooperative Leaders’ Study Tour Programme. Compared to other study tours, the ILO/JCCU study tour is unique both for its duration of ten days, and its continuity for ten years. This booklet reflects on the experiences of those who participated in the study tours across the past decade and includes messages from ILO/JCCU/JCA staff and highlights from roundtable discussions. In addition, it includes information on the ILO’s work on cooperative development, international and Japanese cooperative movements and the contributions of cooperatives toward achieving the SDGs.

  2. Terms of Reference - Consultancy for conducting a rapid cooperative needs assessment in Kenya

    The main objective of the assessment is to understand the current situation of cooperatives, farmers/producers groups, and other similar organizations in the target region and value chains, particularly their capacities, strengths, weaknesses and needs. In addition, the assessment will identify most suitable pathways in the current context based on findings as well as interviews of key stakeholders.
