“Spotlight Interviews with Co-operators” is a series of interviews with co-operators from around the world with whom ILO officials have crossed paths during the course of their work on cooperatives and the wider social and solidarity economy (SSE). On this occasion, the ILO interviewed Chiara Carini, Senior Researcher at the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (EURICSE), and Massimo Lori, Senior Researcher at the Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT). They work together on the Italian case as part of the ILO’s initiative on advancing the Guidelines concerning Statistics of Cooperatives.

ILO COOP/SSE participates to present at the EESC meeting on the Social Economy Category
12 June 2023
The second meeting of the EESC meeting on the Social Economy Category for 2023 took place on June 7, 2023. The hybrid meeting included a presentation and discussion with ILO COOP/SSE Unit Manager Simel Esim on the ILC and UN GA resolutions on the SSE.

43rd Regular Meeting of The UN Task Force on Social and Solidarity Economy (UNTFSSE)
12 June 2023
The 43rd UNTFSSE meeting was held virtually on 16 May 2023. It brought together around 30 participants from seven member (ILO, UNRISD, ECLAC, UNDP, UNDESA, UNCTAD and OECD) and eleven observer organizations (Catalyst2030, CIRIEC, CSEND, EMES, EURICSE, DIESIS, GSEF, Euclid Network, ICA, SSE International Forum, RIPESS).

The global advisory committee of the ILO initiative on cooperative statistics holds its 5th meeting
02 June 2023
Findings from case studies of Italy, Türkiye, Costa Rica, Tanzania and Korea on statistics concerning cooperatives were presented. This led to discussions around recommendations to the ILO guidelines concerning statistics of cooperatives and the need for development of a manual on statistics of cooperatives.

On this occasion, ILO interviewed Elizabeth Nzilani Peter, Chief Executive Officer of Coffee Marketing at Machakos Cooperative Union in Kenya, and partner of the Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO) network.

The global advisory committee of the ILO initiative on cooperative statistics holds its 4th meeting
10 May 2023
National researchers from Italy, Türkiye, Costa Rica and Tanzania presented their analyses on the available and potential sources of data on cooperatives in their countries. They also provided comparisons and recommendations on the international guidelines concerning statistics of cooperatives. Discussions were held on the follow up steps, including the development of a manual on statistics of cooperatives.
