Cooperation in a changing world of work: Cooperatives and the Social Economy in the Future of Work
The world of work is undergoing major processes of change. There are several forces transforming it, from the onward march of technology and the impact of climate change to the changing character of demographics, production and employment. Cooperation, through cooperative enterprises and other forms of social and solidarity economy enterprises, are emerging with viable and sustainable responses to these changes from renewable energy and platform cooperatives to social care cooperatives and worker buy outs.
The Cooperatives Unit of the ILO is organizing an event to discuss the role of cooperatives in the changing world of work. Coinciding with the launch of the Future of Work Centenary Initiative Issue note on cooperation in a changing world of work, this event will include a brief introduction to the ILO’s Future of Work Initiative, followed by presentations by researchers working on the topic, Gianluca Salvatori, the Secretary General of the European Research Institute on Cooperative and Social Enterprises (EURICSE), and Trebor Scholz, Associate Professor of the New School, New York, and one of the leading academics on platform cooperativism.
This event takes place on the eve of a major Symposium at the ILO, The Future of Work we want: A Global Dialogue
