ILO launches implementation phase of new Recommendation on HIV/AIDS and the world of work
The ILO held a series of events under the theme “Preventing HIV, Protecting human rights at work” at the AIDS 2010 Conference to mark the launch of a new labour standard adopted by ILO government, employer and worker representatives in June. With its constituents, the ILO focused on developing strong partnerships with the international community of donors, stakeholders implementing HIV policies and programmes and people living with HIV to reduce stigma and discrimination for all workers living with HIV or believed to be HIV positive, to give a new impetus to prevention efforts.

Young people have been disproportionately affected by the global crisis that broke out in the autumn of 2008. This trend has exacerbated earlier challenges and there is concern that unless action is taken, the situation of youth will become unsustainable, putting social cohesion at threat. ILO book sheds light on working conditions in the remote work industry
A new book by the International Labour Organization (ILO) says that “remote work” – the offshoring and outsourcing of business services from developed to developing countries using information and communications technologies – is creating jobs that are of “reasonably good quality by local standards”, but that the industry has some way to go before achieving full decent work.
