    Labour Institutions Wages Order 2013 (GN 196 of 2013).

    The coming into force of the Wage Order has the following implications to employers:
    i. Employers who are currently paying their employees' wages which are lower than those prescribed under the Second Schedule should adjust such wages in order to be in compliance with the new Wage Order.
    ii. The Wage Order prescribes minimum wages; these can be improved through collective bargaining agreements.
    iii. Employers who at the commencement of this Wage Order are paying higher rates of wages and are providing more favorable terms and conditions of employment than those prescribed in the Second Schedule should continue to pay such higher wages which for the purpose of this Order shall be deemed to be the minimum wage.
    iv. The Wage Order does not include Fringe Benefits; these will continue to be a subject of collective bargaining agreements. However, an employee shall in addition to annual paid leave, be entitled to leave travel assistance once in every two (2) years of continuous services with the same employers.
    v. Employers who are in other sectors not mentioned in the 12 Sectorial Minimum Wage Boards (listed below) should pay their employees Tshs 100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Shillings).

    The Order applies to all workers in both the private and public sectors. The Basic minimum wages are set out in the Schedule to the Order. The Order also deals with being paid for working overtime as well as weekly rest and paid public holidays.

    Repeals the Labour Institutions (Regulation of Wages and Terms of Employment) Order 2007 (GN 223 of 2007).

    This Order makes provisions in respect of minimum wages in urban and rural areas in industrial enterprises and the plantation industry, casual employees, payment of overtime, weekly rest days and public holidays, monthly wages, and fringe benefits. It also revokes the Regulation of Wages and Terms of Employment Order, 1990.

    Contracts of Apprenticeship and Indentured Learnership (In-Plant Training) Regulations 1987. Government Notice No. 822.

    These Regulations, issued under the Vocational Training Act 1974 (No. 28), provide that no employer may employ an apprentice or an indentured learner without being registered (s. 4). They set forth definitions (s. 2) and the scope of application (s. 3). A contract, following a prescribed form, shall be entered into by every employer and apprentice or indentured learner (s. 5 and attached schedules of model forms setting forth the obligations of both parties). The Regulations also govern the determination of wages and working conditions, the duration of apprenticeship and indentured learnership, placement, training programmes, supervision and control (including a model inspection form in a schedule), recordkeeping, tools, testing, certification and, inter alia, responsibility of the apprentice or indentured learner.

    Establishes a board for the purpose of reviewing the minimum wages as prescribed in the Regulation of Wages and Terms of Employment (Amendment) Order 1984 (G.N. 1984, No. 109). Issued under the Wages and Terms of Employment Ordinance (c. 300).
