Maritime Zones Act 2010 (No. 6 of 2010). - Adoption: 2010-06-18 | VUT-2010-L-88478 This Act declares the internal waters, archipelagic waters, territorial sea, contiguous zone, exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of Vanuatu, defines the boundaries of the declared maritime zones and defines jurisdiction and rights of Vanuatu in respect of those zones. The Act also concerns, among other things, innocent passage, research in the territorial sea and archipelagic waters, resolution of disputes with other states and regulation-making powers of the Minister. The Act declares the rights of Vanuatu for the purpose of exploring and exploiting its natural resources in the continental shelf.
Repeals the Maritime Zones Act 1981 (Cap. 138).

Maritime (Amendment) Act 2008 (No. 13 of 2008). - Adoption: 2008 | VUT-2008-L-88479 This Act amends the Maritime Act [CAP 131] in relation with a reorganization of the administration regarding maritime affairs. The Office of the Commissioner of Maritime Affairs is vacated and certain functions of the Office and Maritime Appeal Tribunal are transferred to the Minister responsible for the administration of this Act. In addition, the Act provides anew for the appointment of the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner of Maritime Affairs and the Maritime Administrator.

Maritime Authority (Repeal) Act (No. 22 of 2007). - Adoption: 2007-12-31 | Date of entry into force: 2008-01-01 | VUT-2007-L-88480 This Act repeals the Vanuatu Maritime Authority Act and provides that any function, power or responsibility under any Act, other than the Vanuatu Maritime Authority Act [CAP 253], of the Vanuatu Maritime Authority or the Commissioner of Maritime Affairs may be transferred to such other person or persons as the Prime Minister may appoint in writing.

Maritime Regulations Order No. 25 of 1990 Adoption: 1990-09-03 | Date of entry into force: 1990-09-03 | VUT-1990-R-27206 These Regulations were promulgated under the authority of the Maritime Act. Chapter 1 pertains to the registration and certification of various classes of officers and crew members; it includes examination subjects for each employment category as well as various fees related to certification. Chapter 8 contains the manning requirements of various classes of merchant ships. It also provides a standard agreement between seamen and ship master establishing the duties and responsibilities that each has to the other.

Maritime Act [Cap 131] (Act No. 8 of 1981). - Adoption: 1981-04-13 | VUT-1981-L-83134 This Act provides for a variety of matters relative to legal status of and rights in sea-going vessels, navigation, carriage of goods at sea and related matters. In particular Part 11 deals with matters related to the employment of seafarers including minimum age, payment of wages, termination of employment, vacation allowance and holidays, working hours, repatriation, discipline on board ship, freedom of association and negotiation of labour contracts.
