Old Age Pension (Amendment) Regulations 2007 (LN. No. 178 of 2007).

Amends Regulation 3 of the Old Age Pensions Regulations 2007 (L.N. No. 75 of 2007) by inserting the following new sub-regulation after sub-regulation (2)-

"(3) Notwithstanding sub-regulation (2), a monthly pension shall be paid to a volunteer or widow aged 70 years and above."

Amends Schedule 1 to the Pensions Proclamation 1964 (No. 4 of 1964) by inserting a new sub-regulation
15(3)"Pensionable service earned by teachers and other members of the public service outside the civil service shall be recognised as continuous service when such public officers proceed into the civil service.
15(4) The services referred to in sub regulation (3) are the following - (a) teaching service; (b) judicial service; (c) police force; (d) defence force; (e) local government; (f) correctional service; and (g) national security service."

Makes provision for a tax funded non-contributory old age pension scheme. All senior citizens who are citizens of Lesotho, are 70 years old or above and who are not earning a pension or social grant from the consolidated fund are eligible for the pension. They are to be paid a monthly pension from the Consolidated Fund. Pensions cannot be assigned, transferred or hypothecated by a senior citizen.

Provides for rules in respect of pension to dependants when an officer dies as a result of injuries received or a disease contracted in the course of his duties, officers injured or contracting diseases in the course of their duties, and claims by officers for compensation.

This Order amends the Pensions Proclamation, 1964 by inserting a new definition in section 2; repealing the proviso to subsection (1)(b)(ii); repealing subsection 2; repealing regulations 6 and 13; and providing for a new section relating to the pensionability of married female officers.
