Completes the existing provisions on the protection of the pregnancy and maternity of civil servants. Amends the provisions on the prohibition of certain types of labour during pregnancy, to generally include work which might endanger the mother or the child's health. Pregnant soldiers may not be obliged to perform extra duty or nightwork. Pregnant soldiers shall not be obliged to perform work involving heavy physical effort or exposure to gas, dust, heat, noise and other dangerous influences. No service shall be demanded of a soldier during the last six weeks of her pregnancy and eight weeks after birth.

Federal Act to provide benefits and paid leave to parents of newly-born babies.

Provides parents who are both employed with a special paid leave entitlement for one of them to look after their children. This paid leave for working parents of a newly-born baby begins eight weeks after the birth (end of maternity leave) and ends after a period of three years. Also provides parents with a subsidy of up to an amount of six hundred Marks which is paid from the birthday until the end of the eighteenth month (for babies who are born after 31 December 1992 this benefit ends after twenty-four months). During this paid leave dismissals of the working parents of newly-born babies are void.
