Abstract/Citation: These Regulations, made by the Barbuda Council under the Barbuda Local Government Act, provide with respect to selected matters concerning fisheries in Barbuda: appointment of the Barbuda Senior Fisheries Officer; constitution of the Barbuda Coastal Management Advisory Committee; fishing permits; protection of herbivorous fishes and invertebrates, lobsters, conch shells and sharks; use of traps; restrictions on the catch of certain species for certain periods of time; placement of artificial reefs in Barbuda; designation of Barbuda fisheries rangers; enforcement and offences.
The Barbuda Coastal Management Advisory Committee shall advise the Barbuda Council on coastal management in Barbuda. A person shall not fish or attempt to fish in Barbuda without having with him or her a valid Barbuda Special Area Permit. The Council may place conditions on permits based on species, time, area, gear, fishing method, or any other criteria necessary or appropriate for the long-term sustainability and responsible management of the marine ecosystem of Barbuda.
