Technical and Vocational Education and Training Data System goes live
The new National Technical and Vocation Education and Training (TVET) Data System, an initiative of the National Skills Development Council (NDSC) Secretariat is now live. The system currently displays demand and supply data for skilled workers in three industry sectors – leather, readymade garments and tourism and hospitality.
The data represents an initial 200 industries as a sample population, and was gathered with the assistance of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA), the Centre of Excellence for Leather and the Tourism & Hospitality Industry Skills Council.
The goal of the system is to capture existing occupational demand for skilled workers from industries across Bangladesh and compare it with the supply of skilled graduates from technical and vocational training institutions in Bangladesh. The system shows demand in terms of numbers of manpower as well in terms of the variety of different skills and levels needed across different occupations in the same sector.
The TVET Data System will be used by industry for strategic human resources planning and also by policy makers, training institutions and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board to inform curriculum development and future priorities.
To access the system, an ID and password are needed. To obtain these, contact Quamruzzaman at the National Skills Development Council Secretariat.
Skills Bangladesh is part of reforming Bangladesh’s skills development system which is currently being undertaken by the Government of Bangladesh through the National Skills Development Policy and assisted by funding from the European Union, Canada and other donors including the Swiss Development Corporation.
