National Strategy for Promotion of Gender Equality in TVET

Women’s participation in TVET in Bangladesh is strikingly low, ranging from 9 per cent to 13 per cent in public institutions. This strategy is a step towards improving this, providing specific actions to improve female participation.

The National Strategy for Promotion of Gender Equality in TVET in Bangladesh transfers the recommendations of the National Skills Development Policy into a realistic framework of clear priorities and targets. It was developed by a Gender Working Group, comprising of 15 representatives from key government ministries and departments, employers, workers and civil society organizations, with the support of ILO TVET Project and the National Skills Development Council Secretariat. It provides an overview of the current status and nature of gender inequalities in TVET, highlights the priority areas for action, discusses a number of steps to promote equal participation of women in TVET, seeks to break gender stereotypes, and outlines the way forward.
