  1. Launch of Understanding Children’s Work Country Report in Bangladesh

    "ILO, UNICEF, the World Bank, and UCW program launed its Inter Agency Country Report on Understanding Children's Work in Bangladesh on 17 November 2011 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka.

  2. First Policy Working Group Meeting : Assessing and Addressing the Effects of Trade on Employment (ETE)

    13 October 2011

    The first meeting of the Policy Working Group on Assessing and Addressing the Effects of Trade on Employment (ETE) was held on 13 October at Ruposhi Bangla Hotel. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Ghulam Hossain, Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Mr. Shafique Alam Mehdi, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment. Mr André Bogui, Director, ILO Country Office for Bangladesh delivered the welcome speech.

    Signing Ceremony of the Project Document at the Economic Relations Division (ERD), Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, between the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and International Labour Organization (ILO) & Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) to implement the project titled “Promoting Decent Work through Improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh”on 5 October 2011.

  4. Tripartite National Conference on Green Jobs: The Way Forward

    The conference will provide a platform for stakeholders (especially constituents and social partners) to improve awareness and understanding on the green jobs concepts and priorities in Bangladesh and to provide recommendation for way forward.

  5. Tripartite Technical Workshop on Skills for Trade and Economic Diversification (STED)

    8 September 2011

    An ILO Workshop on “Tripartite Workshop on Skills for Trade and Economic Diversification (STED)” was held on 8 September 2011 at Chilis Chinese Restaurant in Dhaka. The workshop intended to share the preliminary findings on skill demands for current and future needs of two important export sectors: agro-processing and pharmaceuticals industry.

  6. First National Consultative Workshop on Formulation of National Plan of Action for Implementation of the National Child Labour Elimination Policy, 2010

    The first national consultation workshop on formulation of the National Plan of Action (NPA) for implementation of the National Child Labour Elimination Policy, 2010 (NCLEP 2010 was held on 12 July 2011 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka.

  7. New tools in efforts to address child labour in Bangladesh

    Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) launched on Jun 29, 2011 a Child Labour Management Information System (CLMIS) and its Child Labour Unit's Website. The CLMIS and Website were developed with technical assistance of the ILO-UIE Project. Mr Shafique Alam, Secretary, MoLE, Mr Alphons Hennekens, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Netherlands, and Mr Andre Bogui, Director, ILO Country Office for Bangladesh, attended the event.

    On the eve of the 10th World Day Against Child Labour (WDACL) 12 June 2011, the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) took the lead to observe WDACL under the theme "Warning! Children in hazardous work - End child labour".

  11. Zonal Level Workshops: Understanding Child Labour and Regulatory Mechanism

    27 March - 6 April 2011

    The ILO-Urban Informal Economy (UIE) Project and the Revenue Department of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) organized four zonal level workshops on Understanding Child Labour and Regulatory Mechanism. The workshops held on 27, 29 and 31 March and 6 April 2011 in 4 out of 10 zones of DCC. The workshops were chaired by the respective Zonal Executive Officers of DCC while the Chief Revenue Officer was present as Chief Guest. More than 800 participants comprise of zonal executive officers, ward counselors, tax officers, license supervisors, employers, members of community-based workplace surveillance groups (CWSG), and DCC and its partner NGO staff.

  12. Promoting Gender Equality in Civil Service of Bangladesh

    As a part of the Project initiatives of “Promoting Gender Equality and Preventing Violence against Women at Workplace” The 3rd consultation workshop on “Promoting Gender Equality in Civil Service of Bangladesh” was held at CIRDAP auditorium on 3rd March 2011, organized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment and supported by the ILO.

  13. ILO/SKILLS-AP/Japan Regional Workshop and Study Programme on “Addressing Skills Mismatch through Public Private Partnerships”

    14 - 18 February 2011

    The workshop aims to assist tripartite delegations from selected countries in the region to discuss and find effective ways to develop partnerships between training institutions and industries in making the skills development system more responsive to labour market needs and to reduce skills mismatch.

  14. Training on Assessing the Effects of Trade on Employment: An Introduction to Social Accounting Matrix and Multiplier Analysis

    13 - 15 February 2011

    ILO Country Office for Bangladesh, Ministry of Labour and Employment and ITC-ILO Jointly organized a two days training from 13-15 February 2011 at BRAC Center Inn. in Dhaka. The training intended to enhance the capacity of the government officials, trade unions and employers on understanding the issues related to trade and employment.

  15. Traning on Assessing the Effects of Trade on Employment: an Introduction to Social Accounting Matrix and Multiplier Analysis

    13 - 17 February 2011

    The EC funded ILO project on trade effects on employment (ETE project), with the support of its constituents, is organizing a technical training focusing on trade effects on employment in Bangladesh. The objective of the training is to strengthen the capacity of the constituents to formulate coherent trade and labour market policies. The training will take place from 13-17 February 2011 at Brac Centre Inn, Mohakhali, Dhaka

    The Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) in Korea is documenting a TV Story Program on Child Labour titles “Happy Children in Bangladesh”.

  19. Consultation workshop on “Promoting Gender Equality and Preventing Violence against Women at Workplace”

    30 January 2011

    As a part of the Project initiatives of “Promoting Gender Equality and Preventing Violence against Women at Workplace” a consultation workshop was held at Bangladesh Secretariat on 30 January 2011, organized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment and supported by the ILO. Objectives of the consultation workshop were to create awareness on gender equality and VAW (sexual harassment) issues at workplace among the key actors and to identify effective means of promoting gender equality and preventing sexual harassment at workplace.

  20. Child Labour and Trade License

    25 January 2011

    An Inception and Orientation Workshop was held on the newly issued “Office Order” on Child Labour and Trade License on 25th January 2011 at the Auditorium of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC).
