Mr Srinivas Reddy, Country Director of ILO Bangladesh paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Secretary In-charge of Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr. Nomita Halder, NDC on 10 August 2017.

During the meeting, Mr Reddy and Dr Haldar discussed issues related to skills development for migrant workers, the rights of women migrant workers and their protection as well as the implementation of the Overseas Employment and Migrants Act 2013 especially in relation to recruitment services.

Mr Reddy reiterated ILO’s commitment to support the priorities of the Government of Bangladesh, the workers and employers relating to migrant workers rights.

ILO’s Application of Migration Policy for Decent Work for Migrant Workers project, funded by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development is working with the Government of Bangladesh to operationalize policy and legal measures to support migrant workers.

The initiative builds on the success of the earlier ILO project “Promoting Decent Work through improved Migration Policy and its Application in Bangladesh”, which from 2011 to 2015, supported Bangladesh to launch and accelerate development in three areas: policy frameworks; operational effectiveness; and social protection.
