Additional Secretary and Director General of Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET), Salim Reza, inaugurated an ‘Apprenticeship Cell’ at the BMET office, Dhaka on 29 March 2016. ILO provided technical and hardware support to help make this cell a modern one, with computers, to create a digital database of certified apprentices.

At the Cell, BMET will digitally register apprentices, monitor apprenticeship programs and issue certificates as per the recommendation of employers or enterprises.  Apprentices will thus receive nationally recognized qualifications that will make them more employable.

ILO’s B-SEP (Bangladesh Skills for employment and Productivity) Project, funded by Government of Canada, and is implementing a formal apprenticeship program targeting 6,000 beneficiaries in five priority sector’s industries.
