Extend Social Protection: Combat Child Labour

Ministry of Labour and Employment of the Government of Bangladesh took the lead to observe World Day Against Child Labour 2014 in collaboration with ILO, Trade Unions, UNICEF, Save the Children in Bangladesh, Manusher Jonno Foundation and Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum under the theme Extend Social Protection: Combat Child Labour.

Dhaka: A joint national Seminar was organized on 12 June by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in collaboration with the ILO, Save the Children, Manusher Jonno Foundation and Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum on 12 June 2014. The theme of the Seminar was “Extend Social Protection, Combat Child Labour”.

Mr Tarik -ul -Islam, Secretary, Ministry of Women and Children Affairs attended the seminar as the Chief Guest and Mr Faizur Rahman, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment chaired the session. Representatives of International Labour Organization, Mnusher Jonno Foundation, Save the Children and Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum were present as special guests. After presentation of the key note paper in the plenary session, the participants of the seminar put forwarded their valuable inputs and suggestions on the implementation challenges and way forward on the issue of social protection to combat child labour. The seminar was participated by approximately 80 representatives from different ministries, government departments, trade unions, employers’ federation, civil society organization and media.
