    After Rana Plaza, I help prevent other tragedies from happening

    Ten years ago, Mohamed Abdur Rob was part of a team of firefighters who rescued garment workers trapped in the rubble of Rana Plaza after the building collapsed. Over 1100 people died. His experience motivated him to become a fire safety officer in a garment factory.

    ILO’s EU funded Skills 21 project is assisting the partner TVET Institutes in providing entrepreneurship and management training programmes for potential and existing entrepreneurs, using proven ILO training tools such as Know About Business (KAB), and Start and Improve your Business (SIYB) and their ‘green’ extensions. Like Reshma Akhter, other 2100 youths took the entrepreneurship development training from the TVET institutes under this programme.

    In Bangladesh, the skills sector is in need of quality trainers and assessors. ILO's European Union-funded Skills 21 project is working with the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) to establish a modern skills system and meet the demand for the skills delivery system. Khadija Hossain Setu took the skills training from Khulna Mahila Polytechnic Institute and was then inspired to become an instructor to give skills training to the youth.
