DHAKA (ILO News) – Under the Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) Project, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) organized a learning dissemination and award-giving ceremony for its member factories to establish model enterprise clinics.

Participants at the dissemination event
Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) is partner with ILO for pilot testing of ‘Handbook on Model Enterprise Clinics’ in 15 RMG factories.

On 14 June 2023, BKMEA organized a ‘Learning Dissemination Event’ to share the learnings with the relevant stakeholders on implementing handbook and checklist of model enterprise clinics in BKMEA factories. A total of 38 participants including higher officials from the Government’s Central Fund, senior representatives from BGMEA and BKMEA, and representatives from factories under BKMEA, and ILO, attended the event.

ILO along with its knowledge partner CMED, developed a handbook and checklist of model enterprise clinics based on relevant regulations from the Bangladesh Labour Law, Bangladesh Labour Rules, and suggestions from relevant stakeholders. BKMEA was actively involved in this process. Following the checklist and handbook, BKMEA carried out a baseline assessment in 15 factories, and based on the assessment, developed an action plan to improve Enterprise Clinics in factories. Upon completion of the end-line assessment, BKMEA organized this dissemination event to share leanings from this piloting with the relevant stakeholders. Participants appreciated the handbook which made it easier for them to understand and implement legal requirements for Enterprise Clinics. Representatives from 15 factories were awarded based on their performance during the piloting.

This activity is part of ILO’s Project on ‘Implementing the Employment Injury Scheme Pilot (EIS-Pilot)’ funded by Government of Netherlands.  Under this programme, ILO and GIZ are jointly providing technical support to the Government of Bangladesh, Employers and Workers’ organizations.
