Swedish Deputy Minister visits CEBAI

Swedish Deputy Minister for Employment, Ms Irene Wennemo visited the Centre for Excellence for the Bangladesh Apparel Industries (CEBAI) 16 November 2015.

Swedish Deputy Minister for Employment, Ms Irene Wennemo visited the Centre for Excellence for the Bangladesh Apparel Industries (CEBAI) 16 November 2015.

During her visit Ms Wennemo took time to speak with students and staff at CEBAI, which is implemented by ILO and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) with funding from the Swedish Government and Swedish retailer H&M.

She was welcomed at CEBAI by Md Siddiqur Rahman, President of BGMEA, Faruque Hassan, Senior Vice President of BGMEA, Atiqul Islam, former president of BGMEA and Md. Shafiul Islam (Mohiuddin) former president of BGMEA and First Vice President, FBCCI. Also joining the visit were Swedish Ambassador Johan Frisell and Tuomo Poutiainen, manager of ILO’s improving working conditions in the RMG sector programme

CEBAI was established in 2014. Its role is to implement certified training within the national skills development policy (NSDP) of Bangladesh to improve the quality of work and productivity in RMG factories and to enable workers to have their skills formally recognized.
