Producers and importers explore potential for Jordanian exports to Qatar in the cut flower industry

The ILO, in cooperation with the Palestinian Trade Center (PalTrade) and Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, held a series of business-to-business meetings between Jordanian cut flower producers and Qatari companies, to explore avenues for exporting the Jordanian products to the Qatari market.

The ILO, in cooperation with the Palestinian Trade Center (Paltrade), the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Jordanian Cut Flowers and Ornamental Plants Association, held on 25 and 26 of September a series of business-to-business meetings that brought together a number of Jordanian cut flower producers and potential importers from Qatar. The aim of the B2B meetings was to pave the way for a number of export contracts for the Jordanian product to the Qatari market.

An exhibition of Jordanian products was held as part of the meetings. In addition, a visit to the Jordan Flower Auction and two cut flower farms in Al Balqa Governorate were arranged for the Qatari delegation to brief them on the of types of cut flowers produced by the Jordanian market.

The Director of Public Relations and Communication at the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ahmed Abu Nahia, welcomed the cooperation between Qatar and Jordan in the field of production and export of cut flowers and ornamental plants, and praised the efforts of the ILO in this regard.

The chair of the Jordanian Association for Cut Flowers and Ornamental Plants Mazen Al-Ghalayini praised the efforts of the ILO and the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry to support the export of the Jordanian product to external markets, and welcomed the cooperation between Jordan and Qatar.


These meetings fall within efforts by the ILO towards improving the competitiveness and export capacity of the Jordanian cut flower producers in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Labour, the Jordanian Association for Cut Flowers and Ornamental Plants, and PalTrade.

The ILO is implementing the ‘Decent Work in Jordan’s Floriculture Sector’ project with the support of the Australian Government. The project includes a number of activities aimed at improving the employability of the most vulnerable Jordanian beneficiaries and Syrian refugees in the floricultural sector in Jordan and creating decent job opportunities, in addition to improving competitiveness and productivity in the sector.
