Training on Extending Social Protection to Herders Held for Social Insurance Officers

Training of Trainers was organized for social insurance officers from Uvs, Khovd, and Bayan-Ulgii provinces between 23 and 25 June on the topic of extending social protection to herders. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the training was held online and a total of 49 officers attended.

Training of Trainers was organized for social insurance officers from Uvs, Khovd, and Bayan-Ulgii provinces between June 23-25 on the topic of extending social protection to herders. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the training was held online and a total of 49 officers attended.

The main topics covered by the training included:
  • Social insurance system, amended laws and regulations, voluntary insurance, social insurance for herders, the legal environment for social insurance coverage for herders
  • Sustainable livestock husbandry
  • Herders’ cooperatives
Upon receiving training, the participants are expected to meet herders and inform them about social insurance, its benefits, and opportunities for voluntary insurance for herders. Out of the targeted 3,400, they have reached a total of 1,551 herder households in the three provinces, and the information-sharing process is ongoing. As a result of the information-sharing activities, about 1,000 herders have enrolled in social insurance.

During the training, social insurance officers raised some interesting questions and points such as how the pandemic has been causing challenges as it’s affecting the financial situation of herders and causing impediments in their voluntary insurance payments. Most of the questions raised from participants were about insurance indemnity.
