Tripartite Consultation Workshop on Development of a National Occupational Safety and Health Strategy
The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MLSP) of Mongolia will host this workshop to discuss principles and priorities for developing a new national OSH strategy for 2021-2025 with relevant ministries, government agencies and social partners. This work is supported by the ILO project on Promoting Formal Employment for Inclusive and Diversified Economic Growth in Mongolia.
Background
The Government of Mongolia has implemented its National Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Programme in five time-bound stages since 1997 to improve occupational safety and health standards and regulatory environment in the country, establish a safe and healthy work environment for its citizens, and reduce the incidence of occupational diseases and industrial accidents.
Mongolia ratified Convention No. 155 on Occupational Safety and Health, Convention No. 176 on Safety and Health in Mines and Convention No. 167 on Safety and Health in Construction.
The ILO is supporting the MLSP in developing a new OSH strategy under the guidance of the National OSH Committee. The new strategy to replace the previous National OSH Programmes will be drawn up based on an analysis of previous programs, joint definition between the social partners of the priorities for the four years to come, and within an approach that is consistent with international labour standards and Result-based-management.
Objectives and agenda
Prior to the workshop, the national tripartite partners have conducted a SWOT analysis of the current OSH situation in Mongolia facilitated by the ILO consultants. Participants will:- discuss results of the analysis and principles for developing national OSH strategies;
- identify common priorities to be addressed in the strategy.
