Programmes and projects

The ILO operates a wide range of programmes and projects in Asia Pacific focusing on relief and development challenges. The overall purpose of this technical cooperation is to support implementation of the Decent Work agenda in each country.

  1. Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Supply Chains Asia (RISSC)

    1 September 2022 - 31 August 2025

    Funded by the Government of Japan, the RISSC project aims to build more resilient, inclusive and sustainable global supply chains as an entry point and catalyst for advancing decent work, addressing human and labour right risks, and building forward better from recent global disruptions, including COVID-19 pandemic.

    Rural Employment Promotion in Lao People's Democratic Republic

    15 July 2022 - 15 July 2027

    The project aims to support the Government of Lao People's Democratic Republic as well as the employer’s and worker’s organizations in implementing the National Rural Employment Strategy which provides a comprehensive national framework for the project to link sustainable, decent and productive rural job creation to the long-term national development vision and strategies.

    Young Futuremakers Malaysia - Promoting the career progression of young women through up/reskilling in STEM, including digital skills, and employment services

    1 July 2022 - 31 December 2023

    The Young Futuremakers Malaysia project is part of the Futuremakers by Standard Chartered initiative and aims at: (i) providing up/reskilling training opportunities, especially for young women, with a focus on industry demand-driven tech-oriented STEM and core skills towards their career advancement; and (ii) supporting TVET graduates’ labour market transition through awareness raising on up/reskilling and career opportunities as well as strengthened post-training employment services.

  4. ACTION/Portugal Phase III: Strengthening the Social Protection Systems in Timor-Leste

    14 June 2022 - 31 July 2025

    The ACTION/Portugal is currently on the third phase, aiming to continuously increase the coverage and improve the adequacy of social protection systems in Timor-Leste.

    Building Social Protection Floors for All: Support to the Extension of Social Health Protection in Asia

    1 May 2022 - 30 December 2025

    The Project has for overall goal to help more women and men in Asia access adequate social health protection, under the overall umbrella of national strategies toward UHC and the global development agenda including ILO's Flagship Programme on Social Protection Floors.

    Reduced Vulnerability of Returnee Migrant Workers through Linkages to Employment Opportunities and Integration into Local Economic Development in Response to COVID-19

    1 April 2022 - 31 May 2023

    The project focuses on facilitating returned migrant workers to take up existing wage employment opportunities; and supporting aspiring entrepreneurs, MSMEs and local economic development through strengthened local production and services.

  7. Building Youth Capacity and Network in Asia Pacific

    1 April 2022 - 31 March 2024

    The ILO's technical cooperation project to empower 50,000 youth and vulnerable people using sustainable, scalable and impactful training tools in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Philippines, Thailand and Timor-Leste.

  8. ILO in Cox's Bazar

    1 March 2022 - 31 March 2025

    ILO, UNHCR and BRAC jointly designed this project focusing on the employability and economic resilience of the host communities in Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh.

  9. Building Social Protection Floors for All - Phase II

    1 March 2022 - 30 June 2023

    The project aims to provide the ILO’s stakeholders with analysis and knowledge on the role of social insurance schemes in the context of climate change.

  10. Strengthening Industrial Relations in Indonesia Project

    1 March 2022 - 30 April 2025

    The programme builds the capacity of garment sector workers and their representatives to effectively organize and represent all workers in Indonesia’s garment sector. and participate more actively and inclusively in key national policy advocacy.

    Feasibility Study on Policy Measures to Support Local Workforce into Employment

    8 February 2022 - 31 December 2023

    The project focuses on strengthening the labour market through organizational capacity by introducing or enhancing the national employment policies or programmes in Malaysia.

  12. Making Just Transition Work through Stronger Workers’ Organizations in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries

    1 February 2022 - 31 May 2023

    The project aims to improve the technical knowledge, managerial capacity and policy influence of workers’ organizations in Malaysia and Viet Nam.

  13. Promoting SME Enterprises through Improved Entrepreneurs’ Access to Financial Services (PROMISE II IMPACT)

    3 January 2022 - 31 December 2025

    The Project aims to strengthen the enabling environment to drive a more inclusive financial sector for SMEs, generating post-pandemic economic growth and employment opportunities.

  14. Promoting Implementation of ILO Standards in Pacific Island Countries

    1 January 2022 - 30 June 2024

    The project funded by the Australian Government - Attorney-General's Department 'Promoting Implementation of ILO Standards in Pacific Island Countries (PICs)’ objective is to build capacity, knowledge and consensus on how to implement International Labour Standards (ILS) in the region to address some of the key development and labour market challenges.

  15. Future of Work in Textile and Clothing: Forecasting and Developing Skills in Viet Nam to Advance Decent Work and Productivity in the Sector

    1 January 2022 - 30 June 2025

    The project supports the Government, employers’ and workers’ organizations to anticipate and address future skills needs in the garment sector in Viet Nam.

  16. Strengthening Capacity to Promote Gender-Responsive Investments in the Provision of Decent Care Services in Thailand

    1 January - 31 December 2022

    The Care Economy Project gears toward the achievement of gender equality as described in SDGs 5.4 and 8.5 through recognizing, reducing, and redistributing unpaid care duties as they are shouldered mainly by women. The project works on 3 pillars: gender equality; skill development and recognition; and social security and protection.

  17. Healthy Socio-economic Recovery of Informal Sector Micro and Small Enterprises in Severely COVID-19 Impacted Districts of Sri Lanka

  18. Healthy socio-economic recovery of apparel sector Micro and Small Enterprises in severely COVID-19 impacted Gampaha District of Sri Lanka

    1 January 2022 - 30 June 2024

    This project aims at contributing towards the healthy socio-economic recovery of apparel sector Micro and Small Enterprises. It is implemented in Gampaha district that has been hardest hit by the pandemic both in terms of the health crisis and socio-economically. Gampaha hosts a large number of MSEs in the informal economy struggling to survive and build back from COVID19.

  19. Reducing Vulnerability in Lao People's Democratic Republic: Advancing Social Protection and Labour Rights and Entitlements in the Coffee and Tea Sectors (SOLAR)

    15 November 2021 - 14 August 2024

    The SOLAR project supports the government and civil society to promote labour rights and improve access to social security and occupational safety and health (OSH) for coffee and tea workers in Lao People's Democratic Republic.

  20. Enhancing skills of women and workers informal economy, harnessing the potential of green transition: Towards human-centered recovery from COVID-19

    1 October 2021 - 31 December 2023

    The project focuses on skills development of women, returnee migrants and workers in informal economy through work-based learning approach and active engagement of employer’s organizations.
