Programmes and projects

The ILO operates a wide range of programmes and projects in Asia Pacific focusing on relief and development challenges. The overall purpose of this technical cooperation is to support implementation of the Decent Work agenda in each country.

  1. Building Youth Capacity and Network in Asia Pacific

    1 April 2022 - 31 March 2024

    The ILO's technical cooperation project to empower 50,000 youth and vulnerable people using sustainable, scalable and impactful training tools in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Philippines, and Thailand.

  2. Making Just Transition Work through Stronger Workers’ Organizations in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industries

    1 February 2022 - 28 February 2023

    The project aims to improve the technical knowledge, managerial capacity and policy influence of workers’ organizations in Malaysia and Viet Nam.

  3. Promoting implementation of ILO Standards in Pacific Island Countries

    1 January 2022 - 30 December 2023

    The project funded by the Australian Government - Attorney-General's Department 'Promoting implementation of ILO Standards in Pacific Island Countries (PICs)’ objective is to build capacity, knowledge and consensus on how to implement International Labour Standards (ILS) in the region to address some of the key development and labour market challenges.

  4. Strengthening Capacity to Promote Gender-Responsive Investments in the Provision of Decent Care Services in Thailand

    The Care Economy Project gears toward the achievement of gender equality as described in SDGs 5.4 and 8.5 through recognizing, reducing, and redistributing unpaid care duties as they are shouldered mainly by women. The project works on 3 pillars: gender equality; skill development and recognition; and social security and protection.

  5. Healthy Socio-economic Recovery of Informal Sector Micro and Small Enterprises in Severely COVID-19 Impacted Districts of Sri Lanka

  6. Healthy socio-economic recovery of apparel sector Micro and Small Enterprises in severely COVID-19 impacted Gampaha District of Sri Lanka

    1 January - 31 December 2022

    This project aims at contributing towards the healthy socio-economic recovery of apparel sector Micro and Small Enterprises. It is implemented in Gampaha district that has been hardest hit by the pandemic both in terms of the health crisis and socio-economically. Gampaha hosts a large number of MSEs in the informal economy struggling to survive and build back from COVID19.

  7. Reducing Vulnerability in Lao People's Democratic Republic: Advancing Social Protection and Labour Rights and Entitlements in the Coffee and Tea Sectors (SOLAR)

    15 November 2021 - 14 August 2024

    The SOLAR project supports the government and civil society to promote labour rights and improve access to social security and occupational safety and health (OSH) for coffee and tea workers in Lao People's Democratic Republic.

  8. Promotion of C190 Ratification and Prevention of Violence and Harassment at Work in Indonesia

    21 September 2021 - 31 December 2022

    The programme focuses on promoting gender equality and non-discrimination in a context of future of work and promotes Indonesia’s ratification of C190 that cover all the workers.

  9. Promoting Sustainable Enterprises in India (PSEI)

    1 September 2021 - 30 October 2023

    The overall objective of the project is to support Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in India to sustainably integrate in global supply chain in alignment to Decent Work (DW) agenda, and generate more and better quality jobs.

  10. Implementation of a Pilot of an Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) in Bangladesh

    1 August 2021 - 30 November 2022

    This initiative will support the Government of Bangladesh, and the social partners to introduce a pilot of an Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) in the Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector, and gradually operationalize the EIS system, as the first step towards a sustainable contributory social insurance system in the country.

  11. Road for Development (R4D) Phase II – Road for Development Support Program (R4D-SP) Bridging Phase

    17 July 2021 - 31 December 2022

    During the Bridging Phase, R4D-SP will support Government of Timor-Leste's COVID-19 recovery efforts and lay the foundation for the possible transition to the rural roads sector.

  12. Labour Standards on Fishing Vessels

    1 July 2021 - 31 December 2024

    This project, funded by the Government of New Zealand, will support Pacific Island Countries to address the issue of poor working conditions, labour rights violations and human trafficking on fishing vessels in the Pacific and contribute to making employment on fishing vessels in the region safe, decent and worthwhile.

  13. Bringing Back Jobs Safely under the COVID-19 Crisis in the Philippines: Rebooting Small and Informal Businesses Safely and Digitally

    15 June 2021 - 31 March 2023

    The ILO and the Government of Japan have partnered to help micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) operate safely under the prolonged community quarantine and adapt to the New Normal business environment with improved workplace safety and health practices and better equipped to take advantage of the available digital tools and the expanding digital economy opportunities.

  15. Improved Compliance and Dialogue in Global Supply Chains in Viet Nam

    1 June 2021 - 1 June 2023

    The project aims to support national partners in Viet Nam to further ensure the compliance with labour laws and meaningful sectoral and enterprise level dialogues for sustainable development of garment and electronics industries.

    The ILO's technical cooperation project to support 500 micro-small-medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Cambodia through business resilience and digitalization for the new era of post-COVID-19.

  17. Enhancing and Implementing Occupational Safety and Health Standards in Lao People's Democratic Republic

    1 June 2021 - 31 December 2023

    This project is a continued partnership between the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Government of Korea through the Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) to enhance an overall occupational safety and health framework in Lao People's Democratic Republic.

    With the support of the Australian Embassy in the Philippines, the ILO will undertake studies and consultations to better understand the skills development and labour market needs in BARMM and identify opportunities for policy making and programming.
