Bilateral workshops of TVETs between Guangzhou Industry and Trade Technician College of China and National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia

Under the Skills Development Network through South-South Cooperation initiative, the ILO-China Programme convened on-line Workshop of Cooperation and Exchange between National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC) and Guangzhou Industry and Trade Technician College (GZITTC) of China. A total of 17 representatives from GZITTC, NPIC, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China, and ILO colleagues attended the meeting. Participants highlighted the needs of TVET development through South-South Cooperation.

On December 21,2021, under the coordination of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China and the ILO-China Project, the Paired consultation and discussion about Cooperation went well between Guangzhou Industry (GZITTC) and Trade Technician College and National Polytechnic Institute of Cambodia (NPIC). Mr Seng Sokheng, the Vice President of NPIC, Mr Hour Sokaon, the Deputy Head of Research & Technology Development Center of NPIC, Mr Wu Hongdong, Ms Chen Haina, Mr Zhai Enmin, Vice Principals of GZITTC and directors of relevant departments, as well as Mr Liu Yutong, the Project Manager of the ILO/China Partnership Programme, Mr Kimroeun Kouy, the National Project Coordinator of the ILO/China Partnership Programme, Ms Chadapa KRAILASSUWAN, Finance and Administrative Assistant of the ILO/China Partnership Programme, attended the meeting online.

“We are very pleased to be included in the Skills Development Network through South-South Cooperation, and very happy to be paired with NPIC, the best vocational colleges in Cambodia, to participate in the significant international skills development.” said Mr Wu Hongdong, the Vice Principal of GZITTC. He hoped the two parties could show their expertise and enhance mutual development in events such as teacher and student exchanges, training of teachers, skill competition, etc. Mr Wu also wished by participating these events, the two parties would effectively strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the field of vocational skills development and become a model of the Skills Development Network through South-South Cooperation in the future.

Mr Seng Sokheng, the Vice President of NPIC, said that through the cooperation and communications with GZITTC, NPIC can learn the advanced experience of technician education and skilled talents cultivation of China, so as to further enhance the teachers' teaching capacity and the students' skills, promote the skilled talents cultivation and economic development of Cambodia.

Next, Ms Chen Haina, the Vice Principal of GZITTC, and Mr Hour Sokaon, the Deputy Head of Research & Technology Development Center of NPIC, delivered a presentation respectively, introducing and showing the basic situation and highlights of the two sides in details, and clarified the advantages and characteristics of the both. Participants from both sides had lively discussions and exchanges on the next step of cooperation. Combining the needs and intentions of cooperation and exchange proposed by the NPIC, the two parties have determined cooperation goals such as improving the skills of teachers and students of the NPIC, and clarified specific cooperation in three areas of teacher professional ability improvement training, teacher-student exchanges, and competition preparation support. The both sides agreed on the work plan in the next stage, clarified the communication and contact information, and opened the prelude to cooperation and exchange.

“The two sides had a very profound discussion and looked at details of cooperation." Mr Liu Yutong, the project manager of the International Labor Organization, fully affirmed the outcomes of this meeting, pointing out that both TVETs have a lot in common concerning TVET subjects and skills training, hence they have much potential to collaborate with each other both online and offline. Both TVETs will work together based on a regular communication mechanism to reach a cooperation proposal, focusing on training of teachers, students exchanges and Robot /AI skill competitions. The cooperation will promote the cultivation of skilled talents.
