Virtual meeting on the development of the SSB Social Security System and progress of e-Service pilot

The virtual meeting on the development of the SSB Social Security Information System (SSIS) and the progress of the e-Service pilot took place in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 14th January 2021. The meeting was jointly led by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population (MoLIP)'s Social Security Board (SSB) and International Labour Organization.

The meeting aimed to brief the Union Minister about SSIS procurement and implementatio plan. With ILO support, SSB had invested USD 10 million in the las five years to develop Social Security Information System. The successful implementaion of the comprehensive SSIS is expected to be a game-changer for Mynmar's social protection landscape in the coming years to extend social security coverage across the formal and informal sectors, SMEs and beyond.

The meeting was attended by high-ranking government officials including Union Minister, Deputy Minister, Direct General of SSB and other Directors from the MoLIP, as well as ILO officials and members of technical groups. In his opening remarks, Union Minister recurrently expressed thanks to the officials from ILO and the ILO/Korea Partnership Programme for their assistance in developing the SSB information system. The meeting was a success and the national newspaper also covered the event.
