  1. Job Fair, 27-29 April 2012, Champasak Province, Lao PDR.

    27 April 2012

    The job fair will be organized by Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (MLSW) through the Department of Skill Development and Employment and the Provincial Employment Promotion Division; in close cooperation with Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI); and the Lao Federation of Trade Unions (LFTU); and 12 recruitment agencies. The job fair aims to promote information about employment opportunities at home and abroad, and raise awareness of how to migrate in a safe and legal way. The job fair has been timed during the New Year as this is traditionally a time when many people migrate.

    The job fair will be organized by Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare (MLSW) through the Department of Skill Development and Employment and the Provincial Employment Promotion Division. The job fair aims to promote international and domestic employment, enhance job seeking capability for Lao jobseekers, raise awareness of labour migration and provide alternative employment.

  3. Workshop on the Establishment of a Recruitment Agency Association, 27 March 2012, Vientiane, Lao PDR.

    The formation of a recruitment agency association is a key component in improving the labour migration management systems in Lao PDR. In accordance with the tripartite structure of TRIANGLE assistance, employers’ organizations and industry associations are key partners, alongside unions and governments. Currently, there is no recruitment agency association that unites agencies in Laos and provides a forum for cooperation, information sharing, industry regulation or advocacy. At the workshop, guidance will be provided by the MOLSW and the State Recruitment Management Authority, the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and comparative experience from the region.

  4. ASEAN Seminar on Unemployment Insurance and Active Labour Market Policies

    The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Viet Nam, with the support of the ASEAN Secretariat, have organized a tripartite ASEAN Seminar on Unemployment Insurance, Income Security Measures and Active Labour Market Policies which took place during 20-22 March 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.

  5. Opening of Migrant Worker Resource Centres in Xaiyaboury and Champasack Province, Lao PDR.

    Under the cooperation between the ILO TRIANGLE project and the Department of Employment and Skills Development, Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare of Lao PDR, the Migrant Worker Resource Centres (MRCs) in Xaiyaboury and Champasak provinces were officially opened in March. The MRCs provide potential migrants, return migrants and members of their families with information, counselling and legal advice related to safe and legal migration, rights at work, support services, etc. The centres also serve as a focal point of coordination between migrant workers, local authorities, recruitment agencies, and other key stakeholders. A third MRC, managed by the Lao Federation of Trade Unions, has been running in Savannakhet province since December 2011.

  6. Lao PDR launched first Decent Work Country Programme

    ILO NEWS) Vientiane - Representatives of the Lao Government, Lao workers' and employers' organizations and the ILO have signed the Lao PDR's first Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP).

  7. Fourth Tripartite Regional Seminar on Industrial Relations in the ASEAN Region

    This tripartite regional seminar, organized by the ILO with the support of the Ministry of Labour of Thailand and the ASEAN Secretariat, under the theme "Setting Minimum Wage and Wage Guidelines: Role of Tripartite Partners and Impact on Industrial Relations", aims to provide opportunities for ASEAN member states (tripartite) to discuss and share experiences on different mechanisms/processes in setting national minimum wage as well as wage guidelines; and role of tripartite partners in the context of good industrial relations practices. The seminar is funded by the ILO/Japan Multi-bilateral Programme through its ASEAN-ILO/Japan Industrial Relations for ASEAN Integration project.

  8. TRIANGLE Project Update: December 2011

    Tripartite Action to Protect Migrant Workers from Labour Exploitation (the TRIANGLE project) aims to strengthen the formulation and implementation of recruitment and labour protection policies and practices. The project is operational in five countries: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Thailand and Viet Nam, with activities in China to follow. In each country, governments and social partners are engaged in each of the TRIANGLE project objectives.

  9. Report on the review of the ILO Decent Work Country Programme: Lao PDR (2006-2009)

    The report emphasises the review of the overall performance of the Country Programme including the role and relevance of ILO in Lao PDR, as well as progress and performance of the four outcomes.

  10. Sub-Regional Advisory Committee (SURAC)

    The SURAC meeting has served as an ILO platform for tripartite constituents to share information, experiences and provide guidance on anti-trafficking and migration management for ten years. The SURAC was first established in 2001 as an informal meeting between senior advisors, to provide guidance on anti-trafficking interventions and to stimulate thinking on sub-regional initiatives. At the 3rd SURAC meeting in September 2005, the meeting was reconstituted as a tripartite labour mechanism to coordinate country-specific action on human trafficking. The primary objective of the 6th session of SURAC in 2009 was to provide inputs to the design of the TRIANGLE project.
