Iran (Islamic Republic of)

A founding member of the ILO, the Islamic Republic of Iran was one of the first countries in the sub region to join the organization. Iran has ratified 13 ILO conventions including five of the eight so-called core conventions (covering the elimination of forced labour, child labour and discrimination).

In 2004 the country adopted a National Plan for Decent Work, prepared in line with Iran’s Fourth Development Plan and Twenty Year Perspective Plan. The National Plan for Decent Work includes goals relating to improving employment opportunities within small and medium-sized enterprises while adopting gender-sensitive human resource development policies. It also aims to strengthen the country’s capacity to deal with issues related to privatization, labour law reforms, and gender equality.

The ILO’s activities in Iran are implemented and supported by the ILO DWT for South Asia and Country Office for India, based in New Delhi, India.
